SCIENTIFIC WRITING WORKSHOPS

General focus

Writing a scientific paper is tough work. When the time comes to write it, however, many students feel left to their own devices. But experience shows that most of the writing problems are technical in nature. Scriptoria's writing workshops aim to help students and young scientists find patterns and meaningful ways to organise their writing process from the initial chaos of ideas towards a structured text.

Topics

Overcoming readers' and writers' block Reading techniques Combining reading and writing Summarising a text in one 's own words Tools for taking notes Visualisation methods Methodical preparation of a research paper Segmentation of the writing process into manageable parts Learning diaries Improving of self-organisation Procrastination and time-management

An interactive method

All workshops are project-based: students write on their own writing projects. Concrete exercises support structuring of ideas and formulating the main questions. Revision techniques help to create coherence, clarity and precision. Peer review - a crucial part of the writing process - helps to improve the writing of both reviewer and writer.
